First stop: V&A
It’s finally here, the start of the London Design Festival and there is no other better place to be than the V&A. There is such a great buzz around with so many fantastic things happening down here, from talks to exhibitions to the most amazing installations.
One of my absolute favourite has to be Stuart Haygarth’s stair installation, simply made of bits of picture frame. Lancashire-born, London-based Stuart Haygarth, who collaborated with leading framing company John Jones has created a striking installation on the grand marble staircase leading to the architecture galleries . This work of art comprises of mitred picture-frame mouldings all joined together and cut to form steps so they hug the stairs, leaving the middle part free so visitors can walk on. It astonishes me how something so simple can turn into something of an unexpected beauty.
It is exactly this that Stuart Haygarth is renowned for, making simple things look incredible. After all how can one forget his Millennium chandelier of 2000 made solely of exploded party poppers found on London’s streets after the millennium celebrations.

Other fantastic installations not to miss are the ‘Blow and Roll’ by Oskar Zieta in the Madejski Garden (follow up post on its way) and a plaster bench by Max Lamb in the cast court. Sounds all a bit mundane? Well believe me they are far from it so do make sure to pop down to the V&A during the festival. Hope to see you guys there!
