One To Watch: Melody Rose

17th October 2012

Today on the blog I get to speak to the lovely Melanie Roseveare, canadian born designer of

Melody Rose

. Selling gorgeous upcycled vintage ceramics I couldn’t but help fall in love with these pretty pieces. I wanted to find out more about the lady behind the brand…

When did you realise you had a passion for design?

I’ve always had a passion for art and design. When I was young I would secretly redesign our family home and everything in it. My mother would find materials draped around furniture in my early bid to create sculptural shapes.

Where do you inspirations come from?

My inspirations come from the different areas of my life and every day things.  I can be inspired by walking around favourite places like Portobello Market; by things that make me laugh or even nature ‘watching’ from my studio window.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

It’s been an such exciting time and each week there seems to be something new.  I was very proud to send almost 250 pieces to Sidney last month to the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Also, showing my work at Tent, part of the London Design Festival in September was brilliant as I got to meet so many designers and people from around the world.

What do you hope to

achieve in 5 years time?

I’m incredibly happy with how well Melody Rose has done so far. I would like Melody Rose to continue to grow and it’d be interesting to work on collaborations with other designers. Working on something with a designer like Vivienne Westwood would be amazing.

What famous artists/designers do you admire or inspires you the most?

I love Grayson Perry’s ceramics. His Turner Prize winning show was a real influence on me and inspired me to learn as much as I could about ‘printing’ onto ceramics.

I’m also a huge fan of Vivienne Westwood’s dramatic and wonderful clothes that feel incredibly modern but left back in time.

In five words how would you describe yourself

?

Girl who couldn’t stay still.

What 5 things couldn’t you live with out?

Diet coke, w

ine gums, m

y kilns, m

ascara, m

y husband (even though he’s not a thing).

A big thank you to the lovely Melanie for taking time out to answer these questions. Good luck with the future and lets hope to see that collaboration with Vivienne Westwood 😉

Love her work, we exchanged one of my cushions for one of her ceramics last year at a show. The ELLE award look very glamorous!
