Bluebellgray: The Making Behind The Kirkcaldy Collection

26th October 2015

Don’t you just love to go behind the scenes of some of your favourite brands and take a peek at how it all comes to life? Sometimes we easily forget or just don’t think about the story behind our most treasured possessed items. I always find it fascinating to discover its journey to us.

For those that know me, there’s no hiding that I’ve always have been a huge fan of Bluebellgray. This vibrant textile company is the perfect antidote to mass production and you’re always certain to find unique pieces for your home.

If your not in the know about this brand then here is a little intro…

Fi Douglas, set up Bluebellgray, a Scotland based textile company with a clear vision and style in mind; her enormous love of colour and all things floral combined with a desire to create unique pretty painterly pieces. These vibrant, oversized water-colour blooms have become the brand’s signature style

With an emphasis on quality and integrity, Bluebellgray takes pride that all of their fabrics and cushions are made in the UK. Each design is painted by hand in the Glasgow studio before being printed onto natural cottons and linens.

It was for this reason that I was intrigued to see behind the scenes of the making of  Bluebellgray’s latest collection, Kirkcaldy. The birthplace of the new signature stripe fabric is a lovely local Scottish mill. Fi carefully selected the yarns, matching the bluebellgray colour palette, which are woven into fabric by the metre before going to Glasgow to be cut and sewn into cushions. The family run business was founded more than 50 years ago and so it really is like stepping back in time.

Fi says, ‘It’s so lovely to be able to offer pieces which are designed in Glasgow and locally sourced. It has always been a passion of mine to keep the bluebellgray studio in Scotland and to be able to work with such a wonderful family run mill on these new pieces, as well as our backing cloths, is a really nice symmetry.’

The three Kirkcaldy cushions and fabric by the metre are just perfect for mixing and matching with any current collection you may have in your home. The subtle colour way is really beautiful and easy to integrate into your interiors. But then, perhaps I am being biased as anything with stripes is usually a winner for me 🙂
