Friday Inspiration With Flora Dora

24th February 2012

Have any of you heard of Flora Dora? I am obsessed with their prints! Chelsea and Gary Cefai founded Flora Dora The Pattern House in 2011 after becoming the proud owners of an archive of over 200 original surface pattern designs by the late British artist and designer, Sheila Bownas. Spanning three decades, the vibrant collection dates from the 1950’s and has until now, been unseen by the public eye. Flora Dora aims to protect the history of Sheila’s work and bring her patterns back to life, making them available for the very first time.

Chelsea says “My main priority and purpose is to bring about public awareness to Sheila’s collection of patterns and to an artist who has slipped through the net of recognition. This body of work is very much a part of our British design heritage”.

Flora Dora has launched its first collection of ten designs offering a limited range of Prints, Fabrics, Cushions & Postcards.

I was lucky enough to meet this lovely couple and what a truly inspiring pair they are!

They're fantastic! It's such a shame when talented artists/designers just slip through the net and don't get recognised. Unfortunately I think it's only going to get worse… The apple print is great, I'd definitely hang that on a wall 🙂

I cant believe how old this post is, I have Just herd of Flora-Dora and have 3 canvas prints in my hall way, I really want to make a feature wall based print as they are so creative. I agree with Mademoiselle Poirot, such talents remain underground, why the lack of exposure?
