The Everyday Perks That Help Me Get Through A Day

1st November 2017

Sponsored post in association with American Express®

Working as a blogger and freelance stylist can be quite demanding but I still wouldn’t change it for the world. I can work to my own timings, for example, even though it may mean some late finishes now and then. That said, there are certain things that keep me going during the day and I’m really excited to have teamed up with American Express to share with you some of the everyday perks that make my day just that little bit more fulfilling…

Coffee

One ritual that I depend on, literally, is my mid-morning coffee. I never drink it at home as I want it to be a real treat. I love the idea of having a moment to myself, whether in a café alongside my trusty laptop, or even walking around the city running errands.

Flowers

As I work from home, making my space extra cosy and special is also important to me. What better way than to add fresh flowers to create the perfect environment? It really is about the simple things that can add an extra lift to your day and bring a sense of happiness. Buying fresh blooms is something that I truly love doing and which I find very therapeutic.

Lunch

Lunch also plays a big role in my day. No matter how busy I am, I will always make sure to have something substantial to eat. Whether it’s a lunch meeting, a meal on the go, or even at home when I am inundated with work, I will make sure to allocate time and pause for at least half an hour. It’s an important treat to myself.

Video Calls

Probably one of the most important things for me though is making time for family and loved ones. This is something that is so dear to me and striking a good balance is essential. Both my husband and I travel a lot for work and there are times where we can be apart for up to a month! That can be tough, so communication is key. It’s why another little treat for me is making time to message him throughout the day and even do video calls. We try and do a few every day and love to share everything that’s been happening. This for me is the greatest perk of my day.

Bathtime

I sometimes treat myself to a night-time bath, surrounded by candles, to try to switch off. This is a total luxury for me as I don’t do it that often, but when I do I feel completely rejuvenated. Then, to finish my day off I like to read in bed. I’m trying to abandon my phone in the bedroom and instead, read my books under my comfy duvet before switching off.

It is so important to try and treat yourself whenever you can so it’s good to see I’m not alone! Some new research from American Express** recently revealed that Brits give themselves a little treat, on average, three times a week, with one in six (17%) doing so at least once a day. The top treat is ordering a takeaway (30%) followed by reading a book (27%). It goes to show that sometimes, it really is the simple things that make us happy!

Love Julia’s photos of you! Oh it’s so important to treat ourselves – and not feel guilty about it. It doesn’t have to be extravagant, as your post points out with these simple daily pleasures! Like Kate mentioned above, good coffee and chocolate make me v. happy! X

Such a gorgeous post and a good reminder to ‘treat yoself’ 😉 Oh I do it all the time – I love fresh flowers or a beautiful new scented candle, a good fresh brewed pot of coffee, a new lipstick and I have a chat with my other half every day at lunch time, just to check in and see how each others’ day is going! 😉 It’s the little things, right? Also, love your outfit in this post – I have those boots 😉 xx

I have been poorly the past few weeks and a few of my friends have sent me some fresh flowers to cheer me up. It has been so nice to have them in the house as I never buy my own flowers. Great pics!

Such beautiful photos. I treat myself to a scented candle that I burn on my desk as I work. It makes my home office feel less ‘worky’ and more me. Thanks for sharing all your ideas.

Oh, these photos are so beautiful. I love them. I used to be so bad at treating myself … it was always everybody else first and then I was too exhausted to look after myself. I’m learning to be kinder now. Flowers, coffees, quiet half hours with a good book. It makes you feel so much better.

Yes to all of these. Especially Lunch (always thinking my stomach) and the fresh blooms – love have fresh flowers to put wherever I’m working, it feels so much more homely and civilised. I feel like ‘a proper adult’ whenever I have fresh flowers in my house and it’s also the thrill of arranging them in a lovely vase too. Simple things! Gorgeous photos too xx
